What makes Written in Dutch different

Quality you can rely on

Minimise avoidable queries,
revisions and delays

I work with established terminology and reference standards, including MedDRA and EDQM terminology, while considering the requirements and expectations of ethics committees and regulatory authorities. This ensures that your documents are not only linguistically accurate, but also appropriate for their intended purpose and regulatory context.

As your translation partner, I ensure your documents are accurate, consistent and aligned with the relevant standards and expectations. In the fast-paced world of clinical research, that translates as one less thing you have to worry about and frees up your time to focus on improving and prolonging lives.

The right tone of voice

Reach your intended audience

with a tailored approach

Whether your text is a lay protocol synopsis or an informed consent/assent form, each requires a distinctly different approach to that involving a research protocol or an investigator’s brochure. I make sure that your text's tone, style and level of detail are tailored to your intended audience.

Language and culture matter too. Content for a Belgian (Flemish) audience almost always requires a different approach to content intended for the Netherlands. In some cases, careful localisation is all that is needed; in others, a separate translation is the better choice — or even mandatory.

Not sure which approach is right for your document? Get in touch. I’d be happy to advise.

A second pair of eyes

Catch potential issues before
they become costly problems

While translating, I also review your source materials for typos, inconsistencies, unclear wording, terminology issues and other potential problems that could affect the quality or interpretation of your content.

In pharmaceutical and clinical contexts, small errors can have significant consequences — from regulatory queries and document rejection to potential patient-safety risks.

By flagging issues at the source, I help you to resolve them before they make their way into the final document.

What makes Written in Dutch different

What can Written in Dutch do for you?

Translation and revision (bilingual)

Do you need an informed consent form (ICF), patient information leaflet (PIL), summary of product characteristics (SmPC), protocol synopsis or lay summary translated? You’re in the right place. I provide accurate, audience-appropriate translations that meet relevant regulatory requirements and use the terminology expected in the pharmaceutical and clinical research sectors. I also offer bilingual revision of translations produced by other translators, checking for accuracy, consistency, terminology and overall quality.

Editing and proofreading (monolingual)

Have you written a text but feel it could flow more naturally? I can edit and refine it while preserving your tone of voice and ensuring it speaks to your intended audience. If your text is already polished, I can also provide a final proofreading, focusing on spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency.

Subtitling

Subtitling requires more than the simple translation of a spoken text. A translation that works well as a script may be far too long to read comfortably on screen. That’s why it’s best to involve a professional subtitler from the start. Using professional subtitling software, I adapt the translation to the available screen time and reading speed, while retaining the essential information. This saves you from having to shorten or rework the translation later, and ensures clear, natural subtitles that are easy to follow.

Linguistic validation consultancy

As a lead linguist, I can manage the linguistic aspects of your validation projects, including reconciling forward translations and implementing the necessary changes following clinician review and cognitive debriefing. Alternatively, I can support your project at any stage of the process, from forward translation and back translation to cognitive debriefing, including participant recruitment.

Electronic migration and linguistic sign-off (LSO)

As part of my clinical trial translation services, I offer electronic migration and linguistic sign-off for eCOAs, eConsent forms, ePROs and other electronic patient-facing materials. I verify that approved translations have been implemented accurately within the electronic platform, ensuring that text, formatting, navigation and character rendering preserve the linguistic integrity of the validated translation. Through meticulous screenshot review, I identify truncation, formatting, encoding and display issues that could affect comprehension or usability. Whether you’re a pharmaceutical company, a CRO or a health technology provider, my input can help you to deliver a seamless, patient-centred experience, while meeting the quality expectations of global clinical research.

What can Written in Dutch do for you?

The person behind Written in Dutch

I founded Written in Dutch in 2014 in order to help people and organisations communicate clearly across languages. I specialise in medical, pharmaceutical and life sciences translation from English, French and Portuguese into Dutch, for both Belgium and the Netherlands. Over the years, I have developed a particular interest in clinical research and linguistic validation, and I enjoy the combination of linguistic precision and subject-matter expertise that this work requires.

I believe in building long-term relationships with my clients, as well as taking the time to understand what they need. No (wo)man is an island – as a result, I have built a trusted network of fellow specialist translators. When a project calls for additional languages or a larger team, I can coordinate the entire process and offer you a single point of contact from start to finish.
